Presidential candidate Herman Cain admits stealing quotes from Pokemon movie
I'm not going to turn this into a political rant, but I couln't very well let this slide. The Republican Presidential primary(which hasn't even officially begun yet!!!!) has been a joke of epic proportions these last few months, with something like a dozen debates already having taken place, and a dozen more on the way. The whole thing has taken on a circus atmosphere, and the candidates all a bunch of malformed sideshow freaks. The worst of the bunch has been Herman Cain, the former head of Godfather's Pizza, now owner of a bunch of sexual harassment allegations. His campaign has been marked not only by a disturbing lack of knowledge of how the government works, but also of any issues that...hmmm...he might need to know about as President. Go ahead, ask him about Libya.
The guy is a good speaker, though. Give him credit for that. However, some noticed that a few of his more eloquent speeches sounded awfully familiar. The Rachel Maddow Show was one of the first to notice that some of his quotes seemed like they may have been taken from others, like say...Pokemon? To be precise, he was stealing quotes from the song "The Power of One" performed by Donna Summer in 2000's The Pokemon Movie....
Cain had been saying that he took the words from a "poet", which I guess isn't a complete lie, but he failed to mention they were from a friggin' anime. Maybe he figured no Republican would ever realize it, and if they did would be too embarrassed to call him out on it. Yesterday, Cain finally copped to it, stating....
Cain: "I believe these words came from the Pokémon movie. I’m not sure who the original author is, so don’t go write an article about the poet, but it says a lot about where I am– where I am with my wife and my family, and where we are as a nation."
It's been revealed that he actually took lines from Pokemon as many as four times to use in his speeches. His campaign is currently "suspended", but if he comes back I hope he'll think to use something more obscure to steal from. Hey Cain, you ever heard of this Twilight thing?
