Real Steel scribe to adapt Stan Lee's The Annihilator for the big screen

The comic book business has been good for Stan Lee, and by virtually all accounts he has been good to it. The legendary creator of Spider-Man, the X-men, Fantastic Four, and many others continues to be a fixture on the superhero scene even after 50 years in the business. You can always count on him making a cameo in every Marvel superhero movie(and some non-Marvel), and he's still creating new characters. Over the summer he helped found Magic Storm Entertainment to help shepherd some of these heroes to the big screen, and now it looks like one is already headed that way.

Showblitz reports that Dan Gilroy has been hired to pen the adventures of The Annihilator, a superhero Lee developed back when he was with Pow! Entertainment. The studio envisions the character as a possible heavy hitter on the comic book movie scene, one who would have appeal for a global audience, in particular Asian-Americans. The story would focus on a young Chinese man who is given a second chance as an international superhero and returns home to serve some justice. Gilroy is best known for writing the recent robot boxing hit, Real Steel.

Hey, congrats to Stan Lee for getting this project off the ground. Here's hoping they don't cast some white dude in the lead role, right?
