The World will be Watching in new poster for The Hunger Games!
No, I didn't take part in Lionsgate's little puzzle game they were running all day today, where the most hardcore fans of The Hunger Games put together over 100 different pieces all over the internet in order to make up an image. The winner, John Howard, received the privilege of tweeting the finished image, which turns out to be the most impressive poster yet for what is expected to be one of the biggest hits of 2012.
In our most dazzling image of the Capitol yet, the new poster presents Katniss Everdeen(Jennifer Lawrence) as she enters the massive arena where she and 23 others will fight and kill each other until only one remains. The event is televised throughout the nation, with the most downtrodden districts taking it as a form of forced punishment, and the roaring masses of the richer districts celebrating it as good sport. As evidenced by this image, Katniss and her partner/friend/lover Peeta Mellark(Josh Hutcherson) have become celebrities in the eyes of many, but you'll have to watch the film or read the book yourself to find out why.
I like the approach Lionsgate is taking with their promotion of the film, truly getting the core fanbase involved in a variety of ways, whether it's through the official site or through contests like this. While I still have my doubts it'll be the box office smash the studio is hoping for, there's not a single fan of Suzanne Collins' novels that will be at home on March 23rd.
