Tom Cruise officially joins Doug Liman's All You Need is Kill

All You Need is Kill(yes, that's the terrible title) is a film that Doug Liman  and Warner Brothers have been trying to get off the ground for awhile, but kept running into stumbling blocks. An adaptation of Hiroshi Sakurazaka's sci-fi novel, think of it as a cross between Groundhog Day and Source Code. The story centers on a soldier who finds himself caught in a time loop so that each time he's killed in battle, he's brought back to the very same fight. Back in October, Tom Cruise entered talks to join the film, with the plan all along to snag an A-list talent for the potentially expensive film. Now Variety today reports that Cruise is officially on board, and now the ball can really get rollin'.

Cruise is currently shooting One Shot, but in the process has been weighing his options and talking to Liman about the film. The main character is younger than Cruise, and at one time Ryan Gosling and Joseph Gordon-Levitt were possible leads. The script has been reworked by Joby Harold(Awake) to make it fit for an older actor.

Warner Brothers wants to fast track this one, so Liman is making it his next project and top priority. That means we'll have to wait for that Two-Gun Cohen flick he was planning. That also means his George Mallory biopic, Everest, also is on the backburner for now. It's expected that production could begin some time late next year.,
