'Love Actually' director Richard Curtis to helm low-budget science fiction flick

Richard Curtis is about to go as far out of his comfort zone as humanly possible. Known as the writer of Brit comedies Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and as the director of the classic Love Actually, is going to try his hand at a little science fiction. His next writing/directing gig will be a low budget sci-fi flick titled About Time.

Details remain scarce at this point, but we know it involves time travel in some capacity. Casting is currently under way, with production set to begin this summer.  What are the chances Curtis gets some of his old buddies to tag alone? Like maybe Colin Firth? Or Bill Nighy?

Although he hasn't directed a film since 2009's Pirate Radio, Curtis has been keeping himself busy. He recently co-wrote the script for War Horse, and recently wrote an episode of Dr. Who. Dr. Who? Was he maybe getting a genre baptism by fire tackling the most popular science fiction series on television? [THR]
