Punch Drunk DVDs

3. Transformers: Dark of the Moon, starring Shia Labeouf
I'll say this for Michael Bay, even he must've realized just how terrible Revenge of the Fallen was because he sure comes out swinging in the third and "final" film in the epic series. Shia Labeouf returns as Spike, and along with his improbably hot girlfriend(a supermodel no less!) he is again thrust into the war between the Autobots and the evil Decepticons, who have found a fleshy new ally in their quest to take over the earth. Definitely the best film in the franchise(high praise indeed!), Dark of the Moon proves there may be life in the Transformers yet.

2. In Time, starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried
Time is literally money in the latest brainy science fiction flick from Andrew Niccol(Gattaca), turning his keen eye for social commentary towards the disparities in our health care system. Taking place in a world where people only live to be 25 years old unless they can afford to buy additional time, Justin Timberlake plays Will, a poor man just trying to earn enough to live another day. When a wealthy man dies and leaves his enormous bank of time to Will, he suddenly finds himself wanted by mysterious forces.
1. Drive, starring Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan
2011 marked a year in which we got to see Ryan Gosling bring the full force of his talents to bear, as a suave ladies' man in Crazy Stupid Love, or a slick political consultant in The Ides of March. But neither of those performances, as good as they were, can compare to the sheer electricity of Drive. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive is the atypical action movie, a 1980s film noir with both style and substance to spare. While the more deliberate pacing may not be to everybody's liking, there's never a single dull or false moment, thanks to superb casting that includes Carey Mulligan, Albert Brooks, Ron Perlman, and Bryan Cranston.
