If you never had a chance to see Under the Same Moon, the heartwarming immigrant drama from Mexican filmmaker Patricia Riggen, do yourself a favor and make it a priority. I hadn't seen anything from her in the three or four years since, and now she's back with her latest family film, and she's packing a bit more star power this time.
Girl in Progress stars Eva Mendes as Grace, a single mother juggling work, a relationship with a married man(Matthew Modine) and bills to pay enough attention to her daughter, Ansiedad(Cierra Ramirez). When her teacher(Patricia Arquette) introduces her to coming-of-age stories, Ansiedad enlists the help of her best friend to try and skip adolescence and jump straight into adulthood.
Not exactly my preferred role for Mendes, but this looks fairly inoffensive and sweet. The film hits theaters on April 17th, but you can check out the new trailer below....
