Harrison Ford to return for Ridley Scott's 'Blade Runner' follow-up?

When it comes to ambiguous conclusions to great movies, perhaps none did it better than Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi gem, Blade Runner. If you haven't seen it, even thirty years later I'm reluctant to spoil it, but let's just say there are some questions about the true nature of Harrison Ford's character, Rick Deckard, a hunter sent out to retrieve escaped replicants. Last year we learned that Scott, who seems to be enjoying reliving his past glories lately with his Alien "prequel", Prometheus, was looking to direct some sort of follow-up to Blade Runner, but we had no idea what it would be. A sequel? A prequel? A spinoff? A reboot?

Twitch got the scoop that Harrison Ford has entered early talks to return to the Blade Runner universe. I'm not like others in thinking this puts to rest any questions about who Deckard is, but considering Ford's age it leads me to believe the film is almost certainly a sequel. It also all but squashes the notion of this being a reboot, unless he's coming back to play a different character. Back in August, producers on the film definitely wanted us to believe this was a totally new relaunch....

Andrew Kosove: "In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you're asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting."

Apparently, he REALLY doesn't speak for Ridley Scott. But bear in mind at that point the scripting process hadn't begun, and to the best of my knowledge no writer is officially on board, so making any statement as to what the film will definitely be is premature.

Ford could use a hit, to be perfectly honest. Morning Glory, Cowboys & Aliens, and Extraordinary Measures all died cruel deaths at the box office, with his last hit being a return to Indiana Jones. So it makes sense for him to want to return to one of his most memorable roles.

Ridley Scott has about half a dozen films on his plate right now, so it's unclear exactly where Blade Runner fits in the pecking order.
