Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain to star in pair of 'Eleanor Rigby' films

Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain, already in line to work together in Kathryn Bigelow's hunt for Osama Bin Laden film, are set to star in a high concept romance written and directed by Ned Benson. Here's the catch: it's two separate, stand alone films, following the same couple during a rough patch in their relationship.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His, and The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers will show different perspectives on the troubled relationship, the restauranteur husband played by Edgerton, and the wife who decides to return to college played by Chastain. William Hurt is apparently circling a role as well, but for a role not made clear at this point. How these can be stand alone efforts is beyond me, because there must be some sort of connecting thread, but I guess it just means you don't have to watch both to get a complete story.

The most interesting thing to me is the title and it's use of the name 'Eleanor Rigby'. That was also a title of a popular song by The Beatles, dealing primarily with loneliness, so I could see that being a recurring theme in both films. But there was also a 2004 novel by Douglas Copeland with the exact same title, and dealing with some of the same themes.

Who knows when production will start on this, especially with both stars having pretty full schedules, but whenever it does you can bet it'll have a lot of attention.
