Kate Hudson turns action star with 'Everly'

If there's any actress whose career could use a fresh coat of paint, it's Kate Hudson's. After a seemingly endless run of bad romantic comedies that seemed specifically designed to set women back decades, I thought she had maybe turned a corner with a devastating performance in The Killer Inside Me. Then came Something Borrowed and I closed the book on that idea.  But there may be hope yet, as she's signed on to star in Everly, an action vehicle from director Joe Lynch(Knights of Badassdom)

Based on an idea by Lynch and written by Yale Hannon, I get the feeling this film might be more comedic than it appears. Hudson will play a hard luck woman trapped in her apartment fending off waves of assassins sent by her ex, who just happens to be a mob boss. Hannon's script was recently featured on the Black List as one of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.

I'm not sure when this will get off the ground, but for the first time in a long time there's reason to look forward to a Kate Hudson film. [Variety]
