Sure Shots: Alan Rickman; 'Gravity'; 'Gangster Squad'

* Alan Rickman will star in CBGB, a new film from Randall Miller(Bottle Shock), based on the iconic New York City night club that was a key figure in the punk rock scene of the 1980s. Rickman will play Hilly Kristal, the man who ran the club for thirty years before a rent dispute closed its doors in 2006. Miller co-wrote the script with Jody Savin, with production set to begin next month. [Variety]

* Warner Brothers has pushed Gravity, Alfonso Cuaron's troubled, ambitious sci-fi film from its November 21st release date back to some time in 2013. Ummmm...should we be concerned? The film had an incredible amount of trouble during the casting process, and now that it's nearly completed, word from last week's test screening have been mixed. Then again, by all accounts the film is missing most of its special effects, and we have no idea how the opening single shot set piece held up. Anyway, Gravity stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, with the former trying to find her way home after a space station she's on is destroyed. It's a smart move by Warner Brothers as there's some incredible competition on that weekend.

* Speaking of release date shuffles, we were all a little bit worried when Gangster Squad saw its original October release date handed over to Ben Affleck's Argo. After spending some time in limbo, the 1940s era mob flick will now open even earlier than before, landing on September 7th. Ryan Gosling, Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Josh Brolin, Emma Stone, and Anthony Mackie lead the film with Ruben Fleischer as director.
