Sure Shots: Juno Temple; Jack Black; 'The Way, Way Back'

* Just a few days after a handful of English thesps were added to the cast of Maleficent, the Angelina Jolie-starring take on the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale, another from across the pond is hopping aboard. Juno Temple(The Dark Knight Rises, Atonement) will play Thistlewit, one of the three pixies who help take care of Aurora(Elle Fanning), the victim of Maleficent's sleeping curse. She'll join the recently added Imelda Staunton, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville, Miranda Richardson, and Sharlto Copley. Robert Stromberg will direct for a March 14th 2014 release. [THR]

* Jack Black must have had a great time working with Shirley MacLaine on Richard Linklater's charming comedy, Bernie, because the two are moving right into another project together. Black has entered talks to star in Wild Oats, directed by Howard Deutch(Pretty in Pink), with MacLaine, Alan Arkin, and Jacki Weaver co-starring. The ladies will play two best friends who jet their Ohio town and head to Las Vegas after one receives an incorrect social security check worth $900K. A trio of con-men discover their wealth and try to rip the ladies off through various means. It's unclear who Black or Arkin will play, but I'm guessing they'll both be in on the con. [Screen Daily]

* Liam James(The Killing) will take the lead in The Way, Way Back, the directorial debut from The Descendants screenwriters, Jim Rash and Nat Faxon. Steve Carell and Toni Collette will star in the coming of age story about a boy who strikes up a friendship that gives him the courage to stand up to his boozing, abusive father. Sam Rockwell, Allison Janney, and AnnaSophia Robb co-star. [Variety]
