Sure Shots: Steve Kloves; James Franco; Ezra Miller

* Warner Brothers continues to be in love with superstar scribe, Steve Kloves. Not only did he write seven of the eight Harry Potter movies, but they also just hired him to write and direct an adaptation of The Jungle Book. Now they're looking for him to do the same with William Landay's legal thriller, Defending Jacob. The story follows a DA who must leave his job in order to take on defending his son from a murder rap, all the while struggling with whether or not he is innocent of the crime. [Variety]

* James Franco's love of poetry is well-documented at this point, with his making numerous short films based on famous poems. Not to mention he played Hart Crane in The Broken Tower and Allen Ginsberg in Howl. Now he's doing something a little different by leading a pair of films from NYU grad students in his filmmaking class. The projects will be anthology films based on C.K. Williams' Tar, and Stephen Dobyns' Black Dog, Red Dog book of poems. The students had to helm their own short films based on the individual works, with the winning selections combined into two cohesive feature-length films. Olivia Wilde, Whoopi Goldberg, Jessica Chastain, Mila Kunis, and Chloe Sevigny were also a part of the project. Franco both acts and produces, with any financial gains going to similar endeavors. Dude. How would you like to be a student working with a line-up like that? Talk about a career boost. Tar may be ready in time for the Toronto International Film Festival, while the other is still in the editing room. [Variety]

* Ezra Miller, who I thought was overmatched opposite Tilda Swinton in We Need to Talk About Kevin, is still an actor with a ton of potential. He'll get another crack at a book adaptation as he'll star opposite Mia Wasikowska in Madame Bovary, based on Gustave Flaubert's classic novel. Directed by Sophie Barthes(Cold Souls), the story has Wasikowska in the tile role of a woman who spends wildly and has adulterous affairs to escape her boring marriage. [Deadline]
