Steve Pink to direct 'Bad Santa' sequel

My undying love of Bad Santa is no secret to anyone who has been following the site the last few years. I think it's the only other Christmas movie worth watching every single holiday season, along with A Christmas Story. Everything else be damned and wished off into the cornfield. Even though it's been nearly a decade since Billy Bob Thornton and director Terry Zwigoff delivered their incredibly filthy and dark classic to us, the former has been eagerly pushing for a sequel to happen.

Earlier this year, Thornton made clear his hopes for the film to begin shooting this fall in time for Christmas 2013, and now that looks a little more likely with Steve Pink(Hot Tub Time Machine) coming aboard to direct. Thornton has had a willing partner in Dimension Films, who ordered parallel scripts written by John Rosenthal and John Phillips. Rosenthal's won out, but Pink will take a crack at rewriting it before production begins.

HTTB was pretty awful, but I can't totally write off Pink because he also co-wrote two of John Cusack's finest movies in High Fidelity and Grosse Pointe Blank. Bad Santa was such a classic that a sequel stinks of being a terrible idea, but frankly I just don't want them to do anything that hurts the original. Let's hope we start hearing some plot details soon. [Deadline]
