All-female 'The Expendables' style flick in the works

In case you somehow missed it, The Expendables 2 just won the box office weekend, proving that America will continue to fritter away their dollars to watch 1980s action icons way past their prime try to relive past glories. To be honest, the flick is pretty awesome. The only thing that could make it better? More estrogen.

Variety reports that producer Adi Shankar and his 1984 Private Defense Contractors banner is developing an all-female action flick similar to The Expendables, meaning it would unite a who's who of the most badass lady action heroes. Newcomer Dutch Southern(sounds like a lewd sex act) is writing the script, although no details are in place at this time. You can bet they'll follow the Expendables model and keep it pretty simple, like making them all assassins or something. As for who is being contacted, no names are available yet, but "several prominent actresses" are being contacted.

There's a pretty rich history of awesome female action heroes, so let's just run down the list of possibilities....

You couldn't possibly do a movie like this without Linda Hamilton, best known for two Terminator flicks and that scene where she looked ripped doing more pull-ups than I managed in twelve years of gym class.

Sigourney Weaver is another obvious choice, since she's arguably the flagbearer of female buttkickers for playing Ripley in Aliens.

Angelina Jolie is probably the preeminent genre star right now, and Salt proved she's still got the goods.

I'd give my left nut to see Cynthia Rothrock dusted off and brought back into the spotlight. Anyone who saw her in both China O'Brien flicks knows she's a heck of a martial artist and deserves to be included.

More current names would likely include Milla Jojovich(Resident Evil), Michelle Rodriguez(everything requiring a mean Latina chick), Kate Beckinsale(Underworld), Gina Carano(Haywire), Charlize Theron(Aeon Flux), and Uma Thurman(Kill Bill). Although I'd like to see Zoe Bell(Death Proof) thrown into the mix as well since she's the most bad ass chick workin' today. Just sayin'.

Let's see what happens, but if this movie does get off the ground who would you want to see in it?
