New photos from Paul Thomas Anderson's 'The Master'

While the slow build to the release of Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master may have been frustrating to his eager fans, the fact is nobody should really be surprised by it. Much like his previous films, especially There Will Be Blood, Anderson opted for secrecy during practically the entire production process, and has been scarce with the footage up to this point. Maintaining a rather annoying level of mystery, he surprised an audience in Santa Monica with a random screening, making guys like me jealous the world over.

The rest of us will have to wait until September 14th, a few days after it opens at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals. A batch of new images of the Scientology-based film have been released, adding yet another layer of anticipation for what some are already calling a sure fire Oscar contender.  The Master stars Philip Seymour Hoffman, Joaquin Phoenix, and Amy Adams in the story of a charismatic man who, in the wake of WWII, constructs a popular faith-based system that attracts a struggling drifter to his cause.  Check out the photos below....[Cigarettes and Red Vines]
