New Rorschach-style poster for 'The Master'
Now that I've finally had the chance to see The Master, the next few days are going to be excruciatingly difficult not talking about it too much. To be honest, after years of anticipation, I'm still a little stunned that it's over, even though the complexity and myriad of ideas P.T. Anderson touches upon leave plenty of food for thought. It's a film that will reward multiple viewings, spark endless amounts of debate, and I think is all but guaranteed to be a factor when the Academy Awards come around.
They should also consider opening up a new category for Best Movie Marketing, because Anderson has been doing a bang-up job with the trailers and one-sheets for the film. The director personally edited every single clip and trailer for maximum effect, and while I could probably quibble with the kaleidoscopic poster from August, this new French one is superb. It's basically a touched up version San Francisco received ahead of their "secret" screening last month, and gives a Rorschach-style look at the brain of the alcoholic drifter, Freddie Quell(Joaquin Phoenix), who drives the story.
The Master is open in select cities currently, and expands nationally on September 21st.[Metropolitan FilmExport via ThePlaylist]
