*UPDATE* New trailer for Peter Jackson's 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'

*UPDATE* Warner Bros. has released a new vid showing five alternate endings to today's trailer. Now they're just showing off. Check it out below the original trailer.*

Unless you've been living in a cave the last couple of days, you probably already know that we are in the midst of Tolkien Week, which celebrates the publication of J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, along with the birthdays of Frodo and Bilbo Baggins. As devoted as Tolkien fan as anyone, Peter Jackson has been sharing with his fans a number of new photos from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, and while those were cool, the biggest gift of all has finally arrived in the form of a brand new trailer. To put it bluntly: it's absolutely fantastic.

Thankfully free of singing dwarves, this trailer emphasizes much of the humor of Bilbo's quest, while through Gandalf we get a sense of the real danger and urgency. The story is fairly straight forward in nature, with Bilbo joining the dwarves in their mission to reclaim their homeland from the dragon Smaug. With the film recently split into a third chapter, the biggest question was whether the story would be too thin, but this trailer retains the epic scope of the Lord of the Rings films, and it's incredible to think of what a massive overarching story all six parts will be once completed.

Starring Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Richard Armitage, James Nesbitt, and Andy Serkis, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey opens on December 14th. Check out the trailer below....
