Ewan McGregor to star in heist thriller 'Son of a Gun'

Is Ewan McGregor taking a turn for the villainous? We're so used to seeing him play generally good(if occasionally misguided) guys over the course of his career, he played the weaselly bad guy in Haywire earlier this year, and did a pretty good job doing it. He must've enjoyed himself because he's now signed on to play the heel in Son of a Gun, a new heist thriller from writer/director Julian Avery.

Marking Avery's debut, details are few on the plot as of now, but we know the film will explore the relationship between Australia's "public enemy number one", played by McGregor, and his young protege. It kind of sounds like it may be based in reality, but Variety's story is extremely vague and weirdly worded, so it's unclear right now. I'm guessing it is.

We don't get to see McGregor do action movies very much, so this is a nice change of pace. Filming on Son of a Gun begins early next year.
