Frank Grillo to play Crossbones in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'?
We're not that far away from production on Captain America: The Winter Soldier kicking off, and the last few weeks have seen the internet buzzing with the possible leading ladies up to play his love interest, Sharon Carter. So far we know Chris Evans will obviously be back, Scarlett Johansson will turn up as Black Widow, Sebastian Stan is returning as Bucky now all grown up and evil, and Anthony Mackie will debut as Cap's partner Falcon.
The Winter Soldier is basically a tool and not the mastermind, so there have to be other villains in the story, and it looks like Frank Grillo(Warrior) may be taking on one of the most prominent. Reportedly he's testing for the role of Crossbones, a key villain who also happens to be one of the Red Skull's top henchman. In the story that appears to be the basis for the film, Crossbones is an integral part of the puzzle, so if Grillo does sign on it's going to be a major part that could see him involved in the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Does this mean Hugo Weaving will return as Red Skull? He doesn't want to, but since he's under contract he doesn't have a lot of choice. For now let's wait on confirmation on Grillo, and possibly Mary Elizabeth Winstead who is reportedly the frontrunner for the female lead.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens on April 4th 2014.
