Elijah Wood goes scalp hunting in new 'Maniac' red band trailer

So this is what all those years of Elijah Wood playing the nice guy has led up to. He's now gone completely apeshit bonkers and is slicing up chicks in a remake of Bill Lustig's 1980 slasher film, Maniac. Actually, it's largely due to Wood's goody-two-shoes persona that he's so effective when he plays dark, such as in Sin City. I'd love to see him in an adult remake of The Good Son, with him taking on the Macaulay Culkin role.

A rather gory international red band trailer for Maniac has been released, which transplants the violence from New York to modern day Los Angeles. Wood plays Frank, an introverted man with a disturbing obsession for store mannequins and an unquenchable hunger for stalking and scalping young women. I'm digging the 1st-person perspective director Franck Khalfoun(P2) has chosen as it puts you right in the uncomfortable position of a witness to Frank's heinous acts. I wasn't a big fan of the original Maniac, but this looks uncomfortably atmospheric in all the best ways.

So far there's no stateside release date on the schedule, but hopefully that will change soon. Check out the trailer below....
