"The first rule of magic: Always be the smartest guy in the room." The smartest guys might be the folks at Summit Entertainment for putting together that rarest of Hollywood commodities, an original summer blockbuster. Now You See Me has had a wealth of potential from day one as a high-concept heist film with a top shelf celebrity cast and Louis Leterrier (Clash of the Titans) behind the camera. Now the first trailer has been unveiled and we may be seeing this one pull off a few magic tricks at the box office.
Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Isla Fisher, and Dave Franco make up a team of glitzy celebrity magicians who, as we see in the footage, manage to pull off some dazzling heists while their shows are going on. But they aren't just your common everyday criminals as they share the wealth with their audience. This confounds the FBI, led by Mark Ruffalo and Melanie Laurent, who want to bring them down. It's always a pleasure to see Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman together again, as well, as two characters who seem to be a bit on the shadowy side of things, and in general this looks like fun in an Ocean's Eleven sort of way, only with a bit more magic and car chases.
