Jamie Foxx to play Electro in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' sequel

Did anyone think Sony would be moving quite this fast on their sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man? Or did anyone think they'd be upping the ante quite this high? With Shailene Woodley set to take on the role of Peter Parker's future love Mary Jane Watson, and Emma Stone possibly being offed as Gwen Stacy, the latest is that Jamie Foxx has now entered talks to play the villain Electro.

Electro was teased at the end of the last film, as lightning flashes in Curt Connors'(Rhys Ifans) jail cell made it clear who his mysterious conversation companion was. One of Spider-Man's primary enemies, Electro(aka Max Dillon) was an electrical engineer who gained his powers after being struck by lightning, then turning to a life of crime. He's also a member of the infamous Sinister Six, a group of Spidey's toughest enemies banded together to stop him once and for all.

I like that Sony and Marc Webb seem to be avoiding the use of the Green
Goblin up to this point, as Spider-Man has literally dozens of foes they can
choose from. For Foxx this is another interesting twist to his career jumping into the world of comic book movies now. With Django Unchained and White House Down coming up, he's going to more visible now than when he won the Academy Award.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for May 2nd 2014. [Variety]
