John Cusack to produce and star in a Rush Limbaugh biopic

If you've spent any amount of time on this site then you probably know my feelings on a lot of things, in particular politics. As much as I try to keep it in check, the fact of the matter is politics is a big part of who I am, and that occasionally leaks through, especially when it crosses paths with my deep love of film. So excuse me if my disdain for a certain drug-addled, racist blowhard talk radio host comes out a little bit. Oops, guess it already did.

John Cusack is planning to produce and star in a biopic on "conservative"(there's nothing conservative about him, especially at lunch) talk radio host Rush Limbaugh. Cusack will produce through his New Crime Productions banner, and apparently already has Betty Thomas(Private Parts) in line to direct. How far along the film is in development is in question, with Thomas herself saying that it would go into production next year, but other sources saying it isn't close to being ready. There may not even be a script yet. Cusack will take on the Limbaugh role, so he might want to enlist in the Super Size Me diet plan now.

Cusack has made no secret about his liberal politics, but this would reportedly be a non-partisan film that looks at the evolving landscape of American Talk Radio, and Limbaugh's continued influence and impact over thirty years. So my hope that it would deal with the thousands of Oxycontin he used to down on a regular basis, or how he got detained with a bunch of Viagra before heading to the sex slavery capital of the friggin' world probably won't be covered. Darn it all to Hell!  But you can't dig into his career with any depth without mentioning his inflammatory, sexist, and racist rhetoric.

Hopefully this turns out better than Cusack's last political film, War Inc., which was absolutely horrible. [Deadline]
