Max Landis to make directorial debut with indie comedy 'Me Him Her'

If you want to see how fast one hit script can catapult a career, look no further than Max Landis. The son of director John Landis hit the big time as the writer of Chronicle, which turned out to be a surprising critical and box office smash. Since then he's been on every studio's speed dial, with nearly a dozen projects in the works, including a Frankenstein film, a Chronicle sequel, and a TV series.

But now he's switching to something new by stepping behind the camera for the first time. He'll direct Me Him Her, an indie comedy dealing with sexual identity and described as "Reality Bites on acid". The story follows three young Los Angeles leads, one of whom is having sexual identity issues, and are suffering a quarter-life crisis. Themes of sex, love, and friendship are explored, with the idea that self-conceptions should be more flexible.

Sounds like some pretty heavy stuff for a first-time director, so I'll be curious to see how Landis handles it. Casting is underway, with filming targeted for next spring or summer. [Variety]
