Scott Derrickson to direct 'Deus Ex: Human Revolution'

Scott Derrickson has been keeping himself plenty busy after the surprise success of Sinister, his low-budget horror that raked in over $60M last month. He just recently lined up Eric Bana for his supernatural cop thriller, Beware the Night, and also has an American remake of Dutch film Zwart Water developing with Charlize Theron. Not to mention he recently picked up the rights to Stephen King's The Breathing Method. But he's also branching out a little bit and into blockbuster territory, as he'll direct Deus Ex: Human Revolution, an adaptation of the popular video game series.

We first learned about CBS Films' plan to bring the game to the big screen last summer, and it seems to be moving along pretty fast. Following the plotline of the most recent game, it's set in a near future when there have been significant advances in human augmentation. The story follows Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT security specialist who must learn to embrace the high-tech prostheses that replace much of his body in order to unravel a global conspiracy that involves an attack on a biotechnology firm tied to developing human enhancements.

Derrickson will not only direct but re-team with Sinister co-writer C. Robert Cargill to pen the script. It's unclear when production would begin but presumably Beware the Night would be next since it's the furthest along. You know the studio will want to get this on the fast track, so don't be surprised if we see more developments soon.
