Sure Shots: Casey Affleck; Scoot McNairy; Steve Zahn

* First learned about in June, Casey Affleck's developing biopic on MLB slugger Josh Hamilton is moving forward with Relativity picking up the rights. They also acquired the rights to Hamilton's book, Beyond Belief: Finding The Strength To Come Back. The film will chronicle Hamilton's battle with crack addiction that saw him go from one of baseball's rising stars to cleaning toilets to survive, before an intervention helped turn his life around. Affleck will write and direct, but it's unclear whether he'll pick up the bat and star. [Deadline]

* The red hot Scoot McNairy already has two potential Oscar contenders this season with roles in Ben Affleck's Argo and opposite Brad Pitt in Killing Them Softly, but he's far from finished. He's just landed two more high-profile roles that will be keeping him busy for a long time. McNairy has joined the cast of The Rover, the latest film from Aussie director David Michod(Animal Kingdom). He'll join Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce in the futuristic Western that follows a man tracking down a gang of thieves that stole his most prized possession.

McNairy is also joining Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson in Frank, a rock music comedy we first learned about a couple of months ago. based on the life of musician/comedian Chris Sievey,  notable for creating the character Frank Sidebottom, the film is largely seen from the perspective of an aspiring musician who gets more than he bargained for when he joins Spievey's band.[Deadline]

* If you've seen the recent photos of a rail thin Matthew McConaughey or cross-dressing Jared Leto, it's for the film Dallas Buyer's Club. Directed by Jean-Marc Vallee, the true story centers on Ron Woodruff, who in the 1980s was diagnosed with AIDS and began seeking alternative forms of medicine outside of FDA regulations. After showing improvement he began distributing the drugs to others. The latest to join the cast are Steve Zahn(Happy, Texas) and Dallas Roberts(currently on The Walking Dead). Zahn will play an officer sympathetic to Ron's cause, while Roberts is defense attorney, David Wayne. Filming is currently taking place in New Orleans. [Variety]
