Wes Anderson sets Saoirse Ronan as the female lead in 'The Grand Budapest Hotel'

It's clear to me at this point that Wes Anderson finds his most divine inspiration when making films centered around younger protagonists. Rushmore and Moonrise Kingdom are I think his two most successful films creatively by far, and so the hope was that his next effort, The Grand Budapest Hotel would follow in those same lines. Looks like that's exactly what will happen as Saoirse Ronan(Atonement) has been cast to star in the developing ensemble.

Details are still mostly under wraps, although we know it will be set 85 years in the past and involve a well-mannered concierge played by Ralph Fiennes. Anderson has said he drew inspiration from the films of Ernst Lubitsch and Billy Wilder, which are a pretty good pair to take from. Ronan is a fresh face in a crew of regulars including Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Jude Law, Willem Dafoe, Jason Schwartzman, Ed Norton, and Jeff Goldblum.

Filming begins in Germany early next year, just before Ronan appears in an adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's The Host. [Variety]
