Bradley Cooper to star in and possibly direct remake of Til Schweiger's 'Kokowääh'

The Oscars may not have gone the way Bradley Cooper would have liked, but with the roll he's been on it may not be long before he's nominated yet again. Since it's unlikely to happen for The Hangover Part III, Cooper's best shots could come with David O. Russell's Abscam drama or Derek Cianfrance's The Place Beyond the Pines. Already with a lot on his schedule, the actor isn't slowing down in the least, and is set to possibly take his career in a whole new direction.

Cooper is joining Warner Bros. to produce a remake of Kokowääh, the German-language smash written, directed, and starring Til Schweiger (Inglourious Basterds). The film is being prepped as a potential directing gig for Cooper, with plans for him to star as well. Schweiger played Henry, an author adapting a famous novel with his ex-girlfriend, only to have his world turned upside down with the arrival an 8-year old daughter from a one night stand. As he tries to connect with his daughter, the situation is only made worse by her preference for her foster dad. The remake script is getting a new draft from Black List scribes Scott Rothman and Rajiv Joseph (Draft Day), from an initial one penned by Chris Shafer and Paul Vicknair (A Many Splintered Thing).

The film did so well that a few weeks ago Schweiger released a sequel. So assuming the remake does well, and Cooper now has quite a bit of proven success with crowd-pleasing dramedies, there's room for Warner Bros. to do a follow-up.[Deadline]
