Chloe Moretz joins Denzel Washington in 'The Equalizer'
After cycling through a number of directors such as Paul Haggis, Nicolas Winding Refn, and Rupert Wyatt, Sony's big screen take on The Equalizer looks to finally be moving forward with Antoine Fuqua at the helm. Not the most inspiring choice, but with Denzel Washington headlining and a release date less than a year away, the need was to find someone who can get the job done quickly. That also means the rest of the cast needs to be rounded up just as fast, and the newest addition can more than hold her own opposite Washington.
Deadline reports that Chloe Moretz has been offered the leading role of Teri, a young prostitute. Moretz has been taking on one butsy role after another, including this fall's Carrie remake, so it comes as no surprise she'd be up for a part being compared to Jodie Foster's in Taxi Driver. The character had been written for a woman in her 20s, but after a table read with Washington she impressed him and producers, and the rest is history. Moretz has already begun tweeting about her involvement, so we can assume she'll take the offer and jump right into the thick of the action. Washington stars as the titular ex-covert agent who tries to fix his dark past by helping those in need of protection or aid.
The Equalizer is currently set to open on April 11th 2014, but we'll have to see if that date holds. There could also be issues with Lynn Shelton's Laggies, currently slated to be next on Moretz's schedule.
