First trailer for 'Captain Phillips' starring Tom Hanks

The neo-realistic style of Paul Greengrass has been put to great use over the course of his career, whether he's tackling true life stories like United 93 or following fictional secret agents with the 'Bourne' trilogy. Three years ago that approach failed him miserably with the disappointing Iraq War film Green Zone, but he appears to be back in top dramatic form with his latest effort, Captain Phillips.

The first trailer for Captain Phillips has been released, and it showcases Greengrass' ability to tell compelling tales of real life heroism. Tom Hanks stars as Captain Richard Phillips, who became the subject of national attention in 2009 when his ship was hijacked by Somali pirates, and he willingly gave himself up to secure the safety of his crew. It's been years since Hanks has had a role quite this meaty, and he looks to be tackling it with a hunger we haven't seen from him in a long.

Frankly, this looks like the Oscar contender many are predicting it to be. Captain Phillips co-stars Catherine Keener and Max Martini, hitting theaters on October 11th.
