Hugh Jackman is out for justice in the first 'Prisoners' trailer
The abduction thriller Prisoners comes with a great deal of casting baggage, this despite a highly-praised Black List script from Aaron Guzikowski. Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Mark Wahlberg circled the lead roles at various stages. Hugh Jackman had joined back in 2010, before dropping out and coming back last year alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. Still, it took awhile to come together, even after Denis Villeneuve (Incendies) took over as director. But the film is finally ready to hit theaters this fall, and after the long wait we have the first trailer.
Jackman plays Kelly Dover, a working-class father who experiences any parent's worst nightmare when his six-year-old daughter is kidnapped along with her friend. Gyllenhaal is the detective assigned to the case, but when he proves ineffective, Jackman strikes out on his own for a little vigilante justice. The film has the gritty Boston look of a Gone Baby Gone or Mystic River, and the performances look strong. If there's a concern it's that the trailer does seem to give away a lot of the plot.
Also starring Terrence Howard, Maria Bello, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, and Melissa Leo, Prisoners opens on September 20th.
