John Cusack out, Adam Scott in for 'Hot Tub Time Machine 2'

Hot Tub Time Machine had the benefit of a ridiculous title that basically told you everything necessary about the plot. And since it was set in the 1980s, there wasn't the necessity to do much other than reference MTV and acid-washed jeans to conjure up a few laughs. It worked well enough, earning about $60M worldwide and encouraging MGM to green light a sequel earlier this year. While most of the cast was expected to return, John Cusack was seeming less likely, and now he's definitely out as his replacement has already been found.

Parks & Recreation star Adam Scott is set to replace Cusack in Hot Tub Time Machine 2, playing an all-new character. In my recent interview with Craig Robinson he mentioned that the film was on his calendar, so he's definitely back, joined by Rob Corddry and Clark Duke. Steve Pink will also return to direct the comedy sequel, although details on the story have yet to be revealed. It's probably not too hard to figure out what it will entail, right? A trip back to the 1970s for the disco era? Or maybe to the 1990s and grunge music? Who knows? It all sounds pretty blah, if you ask me.

Scott has a busy year ahead of him, with his Sundance comedy A.C.O.D. (also with Duke) arriving later this year, and a supporting role in Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. [TheWrap]
