Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts star in the first 'August: Osage County' trailer
There's no question that August: Osage County is expected to be a major Oscar contender. One look at the cast will tell you why: Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor, Abigail Breslin, Chris Cooper, Sam Shepard, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, and Dermot Mulroney all make this an undeniable acting showcase. Less convincing is director John Wells (ER), but then again it should be tough to mess up Tracy Letts' Pulitzer prize-winning stageplay.
The first trailer for the film has been released, and frankly it looks a little flat. Sure, the performances seem convincing, as one would expect, but that seems to be all the film is banking on. The story centers on the tough women of the Weston family, led by boozing, dysfunctional matriarch Violet Weston. When tragedy strikes, the entire family gets back together in their Oklahoma home and all of their long-simmering feuds come to a boil.
August: Osage County opens on November 8th.
