Oscar Isaac to play Pablo Escobar in Brad Furman's biopic
The life of famed drug kingpin Pablo Escobar has always been a popular one around Hollywood, and lately it seems like everyone is looking to tell their own version of it. Robocop director Jose Padilha has a Netflix series developing right now, and Benicio Del Toro is set to play him in a quirky film titled Paradise Lost, which recently snagged Josh Hutcherson as a co-star. A couple of years ago Brad Furman (The Lincoln Lawyer) began working on his own, rather ambitious take on Escobar, and now it's finally moving forward with Oscar Isaac taking on the famous drug lord.
The still-untitled film features a Black List script from Matt Aldrich, and has been compared to The Godfather in terms of scope, while also throwing some war movie elements into the mix. It's another high-profile gig for Isaac, who has been making the rounds working with top directors Steven Soderbergh, Nicolas Winding Refn, Zack Snyder, Ridley Scott, and the aforementioned Coens.
Filming is set to begin this September. [Deadline]
