Yuen Woo-Ping to direct 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' sequel; Donnie Yen and Michelle Yeoh to star

It was back in January that we learned the Weinstein Company was moving forward with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon II: The Green Destiny. A May start date had planned, with Michelle Yeoh expected to return as Yu Shu Lien, and Ronny Yu (Freddy Vs. Jason) circling the director's chair. The Matrix fight choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping was expected to handle the high-wire action sequences, but now it looks like his job will be far more significant, as THR reports he'll be the guy calling the shots.

Not only will Woo-Ping direct the film, but he'll be joined by his Iron Monkey star Donnie Yen, the martial arts superstar best known for his famed Ip Man series. It's a reunion all around, actually, as Woo-Ping has worked with Yeoh in the past as well, most notably in 1993's awesome Tai Chi Master. The film will be based on the fifth book in Wang Dulu's Crane-Iron Pentalogy novels, which continues Yu Shu Lien's story and includes other familiar characters. At this point it looks like Yeoh will be the only original cast member to return.

Filming has been pushed to March 2014. A special press conference will be held this weekend at Cannes to reveal more details.
