Ashton Kutcher Launches Apple In First Trailer For 'Jobs'

Debuting at Sundance to mixed reviews, the Steve Jobs biopic Jobs has quite the uphill climb ahead of it. Movies set in the tech industry are hard to make exciting, with the exception of David Fincher's The Social Network. But then you get a film like Disconnect which is a prime example of how to do it completely wrong. The biggest hurdle facing Jobs has more to do with who will portray the legendary Apple founder, with Ashton Kutcher looking to fill some very big shoes.

The first trailer for Jobs has been released and basically it looks like a made-for-TV biopic. The story follows Jobs right from the beginning, from the time he was selling computers out of his garage, to the funding of Apple, all the way to the Ipod launch in 2001. Josh Gad co-stars as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, and the cast is solid with Dermot Mulroney, Lukas Haas, J.K Simmons, and Mathew Modine co-starring. At least in the footage here, Kutcher doesn't seem to capture any of the charisma or passion that drove Jobs to be the man he was, and instead he's is just playing himself with a full beard and dress shirt. This may have been a role that demanded a lesser-known actor.

This ground was covered pretty well in 1999's Pirates of Silicon Valley, so it might be a good idea to go rent that. Jobs opens August 16th.
