Marvin Gaye Biopic 'Sexual Healing' Stalls Out

Oh my. As if there haven't been enough issues getting a biopic on R&B crooner Marvin Gaye going, it looks like Julian Temple's Sexual Healing has just hit one heck of a roadblock. About a month ago we received the first image of star Jesse L. Martin as the singer, but what we didn't know was that shortly after that photo was released, Focus Features pulled their funding, grinding production to a halt with only three weeks left to shoot.

Screen Daily's report says that financing has never exactly been on solid ground, and that the issues extended much longer than anybody expected. Crew members have yet to be fully paid, although co-star Brendan Gleeson has and insists he's still on board to play Freddy Cousaert, who helped Gaye kick his drug habit and record his seminal album, Midnight Love.

Unlike the recent trouble with the western Jane Got a Gun, Sexual Healing doesn't have a powerhouse cast or producers to keep it afloat. And considering it's already been weeks without new financing having been secured, there's every chance the film won't get complete at all. Hopefully that won't be the case.
