Natalie Portman Eyed for Cheerleading Thriller 'Dare Me'
After starring in three films in 2011, two of which were pretty terrible and the other featured an Asgardian thunder god, Natalie Portman has been keeping a very low profile. She's roaring back into action this year, though, with a pair of Terrence Malick films on the way, Thor: The Dark World coming up this fall, and the western Jane Got a Gun currently in production. Now she's adding one more project to her schedule, and all you need to know is that it's described as "Heathers meets Fight Club". Check please.
Portman is being sought for Dare Me, an adaptation of Megan Abbot's novel centered on the contentious world of high school cheerleading. The story follows Addy Hanlon, a senior co-leader of a cheer squad, who sees her authority threatened by the arrival a new young coach. As Addy tries anything in her power to regain her position, a death forces her to re-examine her loyalties.
Abbott will be adapting the script herself, with Michael Sucsy (Grey Gardens) set to direct. Portman's role hasn't been made clear, although it's doubtful she'll be a cheerleader waving a pair of pom-poms around. [Deadline]
