Wonder Woman and Aquaman Movies May Follow 'Justice League'

There's never really been any question that Warner Bros. wants to follow Marvel's model for building a shared superhero universe. It was always just the how and the when that has held them back, and after the failure of Green Lantern their caution was justified. Man of Steel will likely begin the process of turning things around this weekend, taking the first step towards the anticipated Justice League movie. Beyond that, it gets a little foggier, although a story at The Wrap may have cleared things up just a little.

"That includes kicking the tires on films for Wonder Woman and Aquaman. Warner Bros.’ plan would be to release two "Man of Steel" films before moving on to the "Justice League," a project everyone at Warner Bros. unofficially acknowledges is being developed."

Moving forward with Zack Snyder and David Goyer's Man of Steel sequel before Justice League was the expected course of action after the film received the thumbs up. Wonder Woman and Aquaman movies have been in the planning stages for awhile, with Michael Goldenberg hired to draft a script for the Amazonian warrior just last year.  A rumor surfaced a few years ago that Aquaman would hit the screen in 2015, but that was when Warner Bros.was flush with the prospect of a successful Green Lantern film kicking off their new franchise. A movie centered on the Flash is also said to be in some stage of development, possibly with Charlie Hunnam under the mask.

The most interesting aspect of this is that Warner Bros. may not be considering a Batman solo film first, keeping that on the backburner while other heroes get their moment in the sun. Nolan's movies are still fresh in the minds of many, and they may not want to upset those who consider them a "definitive" take on the Dark Knight. Whatever happens, Justice League likely won't hit the target 2015 date, so any solo films that follow are a long ways off.
