James Franco Has A Familiar Role In the 'Veronica Mars' Movie

Even with Rob Thomas' regular updates, we still don't know an awful lot about the plot of his Kickstarter-funded Veronica Mars movie. We've heard that it will take place 10 years later with Veronica coming back to Neptune to help out her ex-boyfriend Logan, who has been accused of killing his pop star girlfriend. But it sounds like Veronica will have more than one celebrity crime to put her keen detective skills to use on, as James Franco has reportedly joined the cast, and he'll be playing himself.

Zap2It says that Franco will be one of many celebs to appear in the film as victims of a hidden camera scam, the kind where someone tries to sell deeply personal footage of them on the Internet. It's probably not much of a stretch to guess that these crimes are linked to Logan's case, as well, and part of me is hoping we get a Veronica/Franco/Logan triangle of some sort. It probably won't happen, but you just never know. The show has always taken an interesting look at the culture of the rich and famous, so it only makes sense to do it again now that it's fully part of the Hollywood machine.

Franco's gotten pretty good at playing himself in movies, and I dare say if you really needed someone to play James Franco, James Franco is a pretty good choice.

Veronica Mars is filming now for release in 2014. Expect more information to emerge after its Comic-Con panel on July 19th.
