Ryan Gosling Puts Up His Dukes In New 'Only God Forgives' Trailer

Pffft!!! Holiday schmoliday! When a new trailer for Nicolas Winding Refn's Only God Forgives hits the web, thoughts of cook-outs and fireworks take a backseat. Empire has released an international trailer for the anticipated, but highly divisive film which has Ryan Gosling and Refn teaming up for another intense, muscular film full of hyper-stylized violence. Gosling plays a drug dealer in Bangkok who is "encouraged" by his mother (Kristin Scott Thomas) to get revenge on a brutal ex-cop known as the Angel of Death (Vithaya Pansringarm) for murdering his brother.

The newest cut sticks close to earlier versions we've seen, but layers in a pulsing score which works better in some scenes than others. Early reviews suggest it's another bloody, methodical exercise from Refn with an unusual tone that can only be understood in full context. So it's possible that all of these trailers are giving off the wrong impression of what the film actually is. Certainly that was the case with Drive, and we saw how audiences reacted to what they perceived was a misleading promo campaign.

Only God Forgives hits theaters on July 19th. Wanna fight?
