Sigourney Weaver in Talks for 'The Mortal Instruments: City of Ashes'

Even though The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones doesn't open for a few weeks, that hasn't stopped Constantin Film from planning for the future. Crowded YA field or not, they have enough confidence to begin developing a prequel based on The Infernal Devices, while also adapting the second book in Cassandra Clare's series, City of Ashes. While all of the cast is expected to return, there are a handful of new Shadowhunters yet to be cast, and one could be played by genre legend, Sigourney Weaver.

THR reports that Weaver is in talks to play Imogen Herondale, the ruthless leader of the Shadowhunters whose sole purpose is to avenge the death of her son. Lily Collins will be back as Clary Fray, a regular New York teen who learns she comes from a long line of half-angel/half-human warriors, fighting demonic forces and falling in love with Jace Wayland (Jamie Campbell Bower), a fellow Shadowhunter.

An October start date is being targeted for City of Ashes, with Harald Zwart back behind the lens.
