Woody Allen Returns to 1920s France For His Next Film

Woody Allen's been on quite a European run during the twilight of his career, only returning to New York for Whatever Works and this summer's Blue Jasmine. While the latter is still a few weeks away, Allen has begun filming on his next project, which like everything he does has been kept mostly under wraps. All we know about it at this point is that the ensemble includes Colin Firth, Emma Stone, Jacki Weaver, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Eileen Atkins, and more. But now new details are emerging that reveal Allen is heading back to the era he found so much success with in 2011's Midnight in Paris.

A story over at The Riviera Times (via TheFilmStage) says that Allen's untitled film will be shot in the towns of Antibes, Menton, and Grasse in France, going under the code name of WASP 2013.The story will have Allen returning to the 1920s era in France, in a romantic comedy spanning more than twenty years. Location scouting is still going on, with Allen on the look out for a castle on the Grasse countryside. Allen wouldn't be developing a royal rom-com, would he? With Firth in the lead it has to be considered a possibility.

Considering the production's short distance from Cannes, we can probably expect to see the premiere at next year's festival.
