Vin Diesel Talks 'Guardians of The Galaxy'; Reveals Marvel Wanted Him For Brand New Property

The ink isn't yet dry on Vin Diesel's deal to voice Groot in Guardians of the Galaxy. In fact, it hasn't been signed at all yet, but he's confident enough to speak openly about the role and what it might entail While doing press rounds for Riddick, Diesel revealed that he'll be doing more than just voice-over for the CGI plant creature, because frankly that would have been a waste of his physical gifts...

Diesel: "It'll be voiceover, MoCap and all of that stuff. It's going to be super cool."

It's doubtful Bradley Cooper will be doing mo-cap on the diminutive Rocket Raccoon, but you never know. What it does mean is that Diesel is going to have a lot more on his plate than just Fast & Furious 7, which should begin filming soon. But the most interesting thing Diesel revealed while talking to THR, is that Marvel actually approached him for an entirely new property that would have been part of Phase Three in 2016 or 2017....

Diesel: "What we were intially talking about was a fresh IP, and that was the focus of our conversation. A fresh IP that would come out in 2016 or 2017 to potentially launch a third phase. When we went to Comic-Con, we realized that we wanted something more immediate."

So maybe all of those Ant-Man hints Diesel was dropping earlier were accurate at the time? Probably not, since that film is slated to hit in 2015. But one has to wonder if those talks are still ongoing? This might not be the last we see of Diesel in the Marvel universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1st 2014.
