Andrea Berloff to Pen 'Legend of Conan'; Simon Kinberg Rewrites 'Fantastic Four' Reboot
By Crom, it looks like Universal Pictures is indeed moving forward on their planned reboot The Legend of Conan, which we learned last year has Arnold Schwarzenegger ready to play the barbarian king once more. Andrea Berloff (World Trade Center) has been brought on to pen the script, which will ignore Conan the Destroyer and that disastrous Jason Momoa-led film and be a direct sequel to 1982's Conan the Barbarian. Fast and Furious screenwriter Chris Morgan is producing and spearheading the project that has an older Conan attempting to maintain his place on the throne after years of cutting down any foes who stood in his way. In other screenwriting updates, X-men: The Last Stand and X-men: First Class scribe Simon Kinberg has signed on for another Marvel project, giving a rewrite to Fox's Fantastic Four reboot. The Josh Trank-directed film had been set to kick into gear last month but clearly some details need to be ironed out as Kinberg will take a pass at the previous draft by writers Seth Grahame-Smith, Jeremy Slater, and others. Michael B. Jordan and Ashley Williams are the only casting rumors we've heard thus far, even though a release date has already been set for March 6th 2015. Hiring Kinberg will probably serve to flare up talk that Fox plans to crossover their X-men and Fantastic Four universes. [THR]
