Not every animated film featuring mouthy talking animals needs to be as
uninspiring as Free Birds and The Nut Job. 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios are back with
Rio 2, the sequel to their vibrant and charming rare bird comedy featuring the voices of Jesse Eisenberg and Anne Hathaway. Directed by the returning Carlos Saldanha, the film has macaws Blu (Eisenberg) and Jewel (Hathaway) happily living with their three kids in the comfort of the sanctuary, only to take a vacation in the Amazon where things are very different than what they are accustomed to. Along the way they meet a cast of colorful characters, including Jewel's father (Andy Garcia) and their evil nemesis, Nigel the Cockatoo.
The prior film beautifully captured the splendor and festive atmosphere of Brazil, which made the the rather generic bird smuggling plot more fun than it had any right to be. This trailer suggests a simple Meet the Parents-style plot while maintaining the same gorgeous animation and wonderful soundtrack.

Rio 2 takes flight on April 11th 2014.
