Kathryn Hahn Heads to 'Tomorrowland'; Alex Russell Joins 'Unbroken'; Terrence Howard in 'Cardbox Boxer'
* Kathryn Hahn, whose festival darling Afternoon Delight just turned up on Quentin Tarantino's favorite 2013 films, has joined the cast of Brad Bird's Tomorrowland. The scene-stealing actress will put her comedic skills to use as Ursula, but that's all the character description we're going to get since Disney is trying hard to keep details under wraps. She joins George Clooney, Hugh Laurie, and Britt Robertson in the story that centers on a “bright, optimistic teen bursting with scientific curiosity and a former boy-genius inventor jaded by disillusionment who embark on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland." [THR]
* Aussie actor Alex Russell, who will appear in the upcoming Carrie remake, has joined Angelina Jolie's WWII drama, Unbroken. Written by the Coen Brothers, the film stars Jack O'Connell, Garrett Hedlund, and Domhnall Gleeson and tells the story of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini (O'Connell), whose plane crashed and he and his crew adrift in the ocean for 47 days. Captured by the Japanese, he was subjected to brutal tortures by a sadistic guard before finally being released. Russell will play Zamperini's older brother, Pete. [InsideFilm]
* Terrence Howard and Thomas Haden Church (Sideways) have joined Boyd Holbrook, Macy Gray, and Rhys Wakefield (The Purge) in Cardboard Boxer, an indie drama from writer/director Knate Gwaltney. The film "follows a homeless man living on Los Angeles’ Skid Row who finds himself the target of a group of rich, trouble-making teenagers who are paying the underprivileged to fight each other." This one has kind of come out of nowhere but I like the sound of it. [Variety]
