Disney will be releasing a number of live-action fairy tale reimaginings over the next few years, with Cinderella arriving in 2015 and Cruella (based on 101 Dalmations) coming soon after. But the first shot out of the gate is the long-developing Maleficent, which tells the Sleeping Beauty story from the perspective of the titular "mistress of all evil". It was the addition of Angelina Jolie that got this project moving way back in 2009, and now she's flashing her horns on the very first poster.
Directed by Robert Stromberg, the Oscar-winning production designer behind Alice in Wonderland and Avatar, the film also stars Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Brenton Thwaites, Juno Temple, Lesley Manville, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Sam Riley, and Peter Capaldi. But it's Jolie who will be the centerpiece as the character most deem to be the most notorious villain in the Disney stable, at least she was before Darth Vader came along.
Maleficent hits theaters next year on May 30th.
