Other than Tom Cruise returning as Ethan Hunt, and his buddy Christopher McQuarrie taking over the directing reins, we know very little about Mission: Impossible 5. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) is penning the script this time around, but we don't know which of the primary cast members are expected to return. Nor do we know how the heck McQuarrie plans to upstage the skyscraper scene from Mission: Impossible-Ghost Protocol. One thing we can finally confirm is that the film will hit theaters on Christmas Day 2015.
Is this a good thing, though? The date places it just one week after Disney launches Star Wars: Episode VII, which should be a box office heavyweight at least through the year's end. Adding a bit more starpower would go a long way in securing Mission: Impossible's spot, which maybe reason enough for Paramount to push harder for Jeremy Renner, Paula Patton, and Simon Pegg to return.
